Houston Rockets Offer Jeremy Lin a New Deal

Reports from the Houston Chronicle are saying Jeremy Lin has been offered a contract. The newspaper says Jeremy Lin has been offered a four year deal from the Houston Rockets. For those not familiar with Lin's playing career, he actually worked out with the Rockets last year before being cut. Lin was waived by the Rockets so they could make room to sign Samuel Dalembert. Lin only played seven minutes during two Houston Rockets preseason games. Lin was let go because the Rockets had Jonny Flynn, Goran Dragic, and Kyle Lowry all signed to deals. The Rockets are now without Dragic and Flynn for the 2012-2013 season. Will the team that tried out Jeremy Lin before he ultimately ended up with the Knicks land the coveted free agent?

The Houston Rockets entered the free agency sweepstakes for Jeremy Lin after failing to come to terms with point guard Goran Dragic. Dragic averaged 11.6 points and 5.3 assists per game in 66 games for the Houston Rockets last year. Dragic has received offers from several other teams and is rumored to become a member off the Phoenix Suns, who lost Steve Nash to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The New York Knicks are reported willing to match any offer Jeremy Lin is given by other teams. As a restricted free agent, the Knicks can match an offer to obtain Lin. The deal from the Rockets is rumored to be $5.0 million for 2012-2013, with the amount jumpinng to $5.2 the next year and around $10 million for the last two years of a four year deal. The Knicks already have Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler, and Amare Stoudemire signed for over $10 million each in the 2014-2015 season.

If the Houston Rockets could land Jeremy Lin, they could regain or maintain many of the Asian fans they had when Yao Ming was playing. Ming played 486 games for the Houston Rockets scoring over 19 points and 9 rebounds a game.
